Most of us have faced setbacks at one time or another.   It can be hard to focus on a plan of action to push ourselves through the situation we're facing and to find perspective on those issues.

How do you handle a setback in your goals?  What you do to minimize the glitch in your plans??  Let me know what you think of this article by Edward Smith...

    Quick Steps To Handle Setbacks

Looking for a way to handle a setback?

First, step back and remind yourself of the reason you picked the goal you had a setback in, in the first place. Looking at the bigger picture helps you regain the will to attack the goal again. Next, adopt the attitude of a disinterested observer looking at what happened versus the goal, and ask yourself as the disinterested observer, what you would recommend as a way to overcome the setback. This helps to remove some of the negative emotions associated with the setback and makes it easier to learn from the failure. Then adapt this feedback on the reason for the failure into a new plan and begin to implement it as soon as possible. Finally, realize that only "wins" count and failures don’t, because the key is to keep going back at it until you succeed. The most successful people realize that the more you fail, the more chances you will finally succeed. Winners fail more than losers do, because they keep going back until they win.

Great post... It is too easy to allow our emotions dictate our future progress verses allowing the conviction of success push us beyond the failures and setbacks.

Thanks for posting that. Pretty good timing. These past coupe of weeks have been that for me, and I am sure many other agents out there. The media cried Economic Crisis, and  I have had buyers back out of a contract, other buyers call me to tell me they are going to hold off for a little while, sellers getting frustrated that their properties are not showing... So, I am taking this slower period to get back to networkng, back to reading, back to calling past cients to get ready when things pick back up.

I like this post.  Probably the most important advice I ever received in real estate was to "make it happen".  There are times when everything is going sideways (or so it seems) and it would be easy to throw in the towel, but a winner will keep plugging away and make it happen.  Times will change and the challenges we face now will better prepare us for the future.

So true...it's a challenge to step beyond emotion and to find the observer inside ourselves.  Thanks, Freddie!

    Great post!
Sometimes I tend to take on too much and want to ensure that all the clients are handled personally. I had to learn to delegate and let things go and hire an assistant.

Also, I was always running, running, running and giving everything to everyone and not making any time for myself. Now I've learned to not be afraid and take a day off. Now my children and family know that I'm off with them on Sundays and nothing will interfere with that time. I've also learned to take at least an hour to myself, no phones, no computer and just reflect. For the sake of my sanity and actually found myself to be more productive and reliable to my clients because I'm not "burned out".

    Anyway, that's my personal experience.
    Much success everyone.
